We are pleased to announce that we have secured another practice location.  Our new practices are at Genesis Centre at 7556 Falconridge Blvd NE.

Times are also posted on the calendar on the league website (please check for holiday changes).  The new schedule is as follows:

July – September:
Jills: Mondays 7:30-9:30pm
Dogs: Saturdays 10am-12pm
Fresh Meat: Fridays 7:30-9:30pm starting July 12
League: Sundays 10am-1pm

PLEASE NOTE: For this week ONLY, Dogs practice will be held on Friday night and there will be NO FRESH MEAT PRACTICE due to our double-header on Saturday.  Fresh Meat are welcome to come and skate at league practice on Sunday instead.

And be sure to come out to Acadia Rec Centre (240 – 90 Avenue SE)on Saturday, July 6th for our double-header event. The Kill Jills will be taking on  Bow Valley’s Lady Macs followed up by a co-ed invitational extravaganza!   We will also be raising money for the YWCA as they were our home for a very long time and were devastated by the recent flood.   So come out, have some fun,  and “Keep Calm And Derby On!”

Cancellation and Flood Update

We are disappointed to announce that due to the state of the roads, the Kill Jills and Glenmore Reservoir Dogs have had to cancel their away games in Revelstoke on June 29. We extend our apologies to the leagues involved in that event.

On a related note, due to the recent flooding in Calgary (and Alberta), the YWCA facilities have been affected by this crisis.  This means that Chinook City is currently without practice space.  We are looking at options and will provide an update once we have more information.

Despite the disappointing news about the upcoming bout and our space, Chinook City is very grateful (and lucky) that very few of our members were affected by the flood and there has been no loss of life in Calgary.  Our hearts go out to our dear friends at Foothills Roller Derby Association and Bow Valley Roller Derby as their communities were devastated by the flood.

If you want to help, please consider a monetary donation to the Canadian Red Cross or keep your eyes and ears peels for volunteer opportunities in and around these communities.

2013 Home Opener

Saturday, Chinook City held our first event of the season at our new home, Acadia Recreation Complex! It was a busy day with closed Junior action in the afternoon followed up by a double-header event with both of our men’s and women’s teams playing.  Home field advantage certainly helped as all three of our teams came out on top!

In their first game, our juniors, the Youthanizers, took on Lethbridge’s Windy City Wipeouts! Both teams played amazingly well. It was a tight game, but the Youthanizers  took the win with a score of 252 to 215.  This is the future of roller derby folks!

Later in the day, the Glenmore Reservoir Dogs met their long-time rivals Red Deer’s Dreadnaughts.  With both teams seeking a win, it was a hard-hitting and intense game. The Dogs came out on top with a final score of 199 to 118.

In our last bout of the evening, the Kill Jills hosted the ladies from the Deathbridge Derby Dames.  Last year, these two teams met and the result was a thrilling and exciting game which afforded the Jills one of their first wins.  This year, the Jills were hoping to do it again.  And they did! The ladies in yellow pulled out a huge win with a score of 304 to 99.

We’d like to thank the Windy City Wipeouts, Dreadnaughts and Deathbridge Derby Dames for making the trip into Calgary and helping to make our first event of the season an amazing success!

And of course, we can’t put these things on without the support of all of our Officials (our friends from Pulp Conviction and those swell out-of-town officials who made the trek to help keep our skaters in line) and all of the fabulous volunteers who helped make this ship run.  Thank you!

Make sure you mark you calendar for our next home event on July 6th! We will be hosting a co-ed invitational (if you are a skater, you can sign up here!) and our Kill Jills will be taking on Bow Valley Roller Derby‘s LadyMacs from Canmore!
